Why Donate to Healthy Beginnings?
Oregon estimates that nearly 4 out of every 10 children enter kindergarten with health or developmental concerns that limits their success.
75% of children receiving appropriate services before age five will proceed on to regular placement in school. If they do not receive referral and service until after age five, 77% will need special education services.
The current estimate indicates that for every dollar spent on early intervention for high-risk families, seven dollars is saved through prevention of long-term negative outcomes.
The state has identified universal community screenings as best practice, providing consistent, reliable, valid, evidence based screening for young children – but there is no state funding.
For the past 23 years, Healthy Beginnings relies on community donations to keep our screenings free for all families who utilize our services.
Healthy Beginnings serves over 900 children and families each year in Bend, La Pine, Madras, Prineville, Redmond, Sisters and Sunriver.
By adopting a bear during the month of April, you are playing a direct role in the future of Central Oregon’s youth. Will you provide one child with a healthy beginning?
