Adopt a Bear

Why Donate to Healthy Beginnings?

  • Oregon estimates that nearly 4 out of every 10 children enter kindergarten with health or developmental concerns that limits their success.

  • 75% of children receiving appropriate services before age five will proceed on to regular placement in school. If they do not receive referral and service until after age five, 77% will need special education services.

  • The current estimate indicates that for every dollar spent on early intervention for high-risk families, seven dollars is saved through prevention of long-term negative outcomes.

  • The state has identified universal community screenings as best practice, providing consistent, reliable, valid, evidence based screening for young children – but there is no state funding.

  • For the past 23 years, Healthy Beginnings relies on community donations to keep our screenings free for all families who utilize our services.

  • Healthy Beginnings serves over 900 children and families each year in Bend, La Pine, Madras, Prineville, Redmond, Sisters and Sunriver.

By adopting a bear during the month of April, you are playing a direct role in the future of Central Oregon’s youth. Will you provide one child with a healthy beginning?
