PRESCHOOL SCREENINGS
Signup up your preschool for a screening
Bring the whole class, and things become really fun!
One of the best and most convenient ways to have a screening is by organizing it for your preschool. We provide FREE screenings for area preschools, daycares and child care centers.
All you need to do is request a screening through this form, and we’ll reach out within two weeks to schedule your screening date.
(Note: If you are a preschool that is enrolled in the QRIS or Sparks program (Oregon’s Quality Rating and Improvement Systems), you are required to: “Use information from screenings and assessments to measure children’s learning and development in order to make referrals and do program planning.”)
Oregon’s QRIS mirrors Oregon’s Early learning Council’s emphasis on screening and assessing children. Rest assured that our screening staff is qualified to administer the research-based tools in order to screen your classes for free
Screenings for your preschool can include any or all of the following:
- Ages and Stages Questionnaires (assesses a child’s development)
- Ages and Stages Social and Emotional questionnaires (assesses a child’s behavior)
- Vision Screening with our Spot Screener (The Spot Vision Screener is a handheld, portable device designed to help users quickly and easily detect vision issues on patients from 6 months of age and older. Spot allows us to screen both eyes at once from a non threatening 3-foot distance)
- Hearing Screening (with our Otoacoustic Emissions Machine – a small ear bud plays a series of tones and provides a reading)
- Dental screenings
- Speech evalutions
- DIAL motor and concepts
Preparing for Your Screening
Once you schedule your screening, we will provide you with a packet that will include information about the process as well as a permission slip and developmental questionnaires to be completed. Families should be prepared to return the completed packet to the preschool anytime prior to your scheduled screening date.
Your Screening and Beyond
On your screening date, our representatives and medical partners will come to your preschool and screen each child whose parents chose to participate. Kiddos are screened in pairs and returned to their classrooms or teachers. Following the screening, a staff member will reach out to the parents over the phone to discuss the results of the screenings and any questions they might have about the screening process. If any concerns were identified, staff will clarify what follow up is recommended.
For any children with a concern, we will also follow up with the family to check on their progress at 6 weeks and 6 months following the screening.
